Kenneth Sensenbrenner, DMD
Dr. Sensenbrenner was born in Spokane, Washington. His father was an Air Force officer and they moved often, living in Arizona, Alabama, Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma during his childhood. Before moving to Urbana when he started high school, he spent many summers on his grandmother's farm between Urbana and Philo. Dr. Sensenbrenner graduated from Urbana High School and the University of Illinois where he earned a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. After spending 18 months employed by Rockwell International in Los Angeles designing the B-1 Bomber, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry.
Dr. Sensenbrenner graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1978 and returned to Champaign to practice with Dr. C. Ford Haussermann until his retirement in 1985. Dr. Sensenbrenner gained a great deal of practical knowledge from Dr. Haussermann, who was in practice for 54 years. In addition, his commitment to continuing education enables Dr. Sensenbrenner to offer the most up to date care to his patients.
Ken’s wife, Joan, was born and raised in Champaign and has a B.A. and M. Ed. in Learning Disabilities from the University of Illinois. Their ties to the community are life long and were the determining factor in their decision to return after dental school. They have 2 grown sons; both swam for and graduated from Miami of Ohio. Their oldest son, Will, joined Sensenbrenner Family Dental in June 2012. Ken, Jr. lives in Indianapolis, has been employed by CNO Financial for 6 years, received a Master of Science from the University of Illinois in August 2010, and now attends Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
“I feel very fortunate to have a profession that I thoroughly enjoy which enables me to approach each day with enthusiasm. Dentistry is the perfect combination of medicine and engineering. My goal for my dental practice is to provide sensible, conservative, functional dentistry. I endeavor to customize treatment for each patient to meet their individual needs and desires. Through the use of state of the art care, I strive to achieve optimal oral health for all of my patients so that they feel and look their best.”
**Note ~ Dr. Sensenbrenner, his wife Joan, and their son Will took part in the Mission of Mercy volunteer effort in Bloomington, IL., June 11 and 12, 2010. Over 1800 patients received free dental care including everything from cleanings, oral cancer screenings, fillings, root canals, to extractions and treatment partials. The Illinois State Dental Society partnered with the Mission of Mercy organization to serve those in need from as far away as Tennessee along with many from Central Illinois. It was a very successful effort and extremely gratifying and worthwhile for those who volunteered.
William Sensenbrenner, DMD
I was born and raised in Champaign, graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1997 and went on to Miami University in Oxford, OH. In 2001, I graduated from Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and finished my swimming career as the Men's Team Captain, a Mid-America Conference Champion, and an Olympic Trial qualifier.
After graduating from Miami in 2001, I spent 5 years in sales, 3 of those years as a Pain Control Specialist with Septodont, Inc. educating dentists about the latest pain control products for their patients. In 2006, I resigned from my sales position to attend IUPUI in Indianapolis where I completed dental school prerequisite courses. In 2008, I was accepted to Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL and graduated in 2012.
I belong to many professional organizations including the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and I am an elected officer with the Illini District Dental Society. I work one to two days a month with Promise Healthcare and Smile Healthy, to help those less fortunate and unable to afford regular dental care receive the treatment that they desperately need. I try to attend many continuing education courses and strive to be informed on the most cutting edge techniques in dentistry including CEREC crowns & bridges, CEREC veneers & implant crowns, endodontics, and pain control techniques.
Also, I participate in Dental Lifeline Network which is a networking service that provides a national safety net for people who are elderly, severely ill or have disabilities and lack financial resources. Yearly, I participate in the local Give Kids A Smile volunteer efforts to provide dental screenings to hundreds of less fortunate kids.
I enjoy being back in the Champaign area and feel fortunate to be working with my dad. I received exceptional clinical training at SIU-SDM, but I have learned a lot about general dentistry and private practice from Dr. Ken.
